My memories of your dad go right back to around 1965 when I was 11/12 and used to caddy for Dick around the old farm golf course at Green Hills. Then we met up again at Ocean Beach when we both worked on the slaughter-board in the early 70’s. He taught me to sharpen and maintain my knives. No mean feat as I was useless. My last chat with Dick was I think at the last school reunion. You brought him down and Raewyn and I had a chat with you both. A very sad loss for you all. Tom Lowrie - Perth WA My very deepest sympathy to all Dick’s family. He was one of Bluff’s legendary blokes. A true Bluffie. With love from Georgina Ellis In loving memory of Uncle Dick, To a man who brought joy, laughter, and warmth into our lives. Whenever we were in Bluff, Uncle Dick's presence would light up the room. His Kōrero, filled with wisdom and storytelling, captivated us all. But it wasn't just his words that endeared us to Uncle Dick. His wit and jokes would leave us in stitches which was the uniqueness of our Uncle. But what truly set Uncle Dick apart was his manaakitanga, his incredible gift of hospitality. Whenever we visited Bluff, he would welcome us with open arms and make us feel like part of the family. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he would go above and beyond to ensure our comfort and happiness. Uncle Dick created a sense of belonging, a home away from home, and for that, we are forever grateful. As we say goodbye to Uncle Dick, we know that coming to Bluff will never be the same. We will miss his presence, his laughter, and his warm embrace. But we take solace in the memories we shared with him, the countless happy times spent together with the whaanau. Those memories will keep his spirit alive within us, reminding us of the love and joy he brought into our lives. Though we may be far away in Australia, our Aroha and blessings reach out to Uncle Dick's whaanau Karl & Debbie and loved ones. May you find comfort in the memories and the love that surrounds you. Uncle Dick's legacy lives on through all of us, and his spirit will forever be a part of the Bluff community. Rest in peace, Uncle Dick. You will be dearly missed. Much Aroha, Rose & Titus Kuka Debbie, Carl and families, our condolences and thoughts are with you all at this very sad time. Dale & Ray Fife. Kia ora Debbie, Karl and families. On behalf of the Culling’s please accept our heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dad. Growing up in Barrow Street your family were great neighbours and I know Mum was looking forward to Dick returning and was keeping an eye on the renovations with anticipation. Dick was a work colleague to Sid, a good neighbour to Mum, respected Mr Ryan to us kids and latterly an influential rugby coach. Heading to Bluff from Wellington I visited Dick at the Calvary rest home a while ago not sure what to expect. I had a wonderful hour as your dad talked and I listened. It was the Dick of old. Rugby, politics, the economy, but most of all, family. What mine were up to and what you two were doing. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane and I remembered why I always liked your dad.
