Dear Bill,

We are so sorry that we can’t be there today to say goodbye in person.

You were a wonderful father-in-law and a special Grandad to William and Hugo. We will always remember your kindness and generosity, your dry sense of humour, and the warmth you brought whenever the family was together.

We also want to acknowledge Jill, and the love, companionship and partnership you shared throughout your marriage. Jill, our thoughts and love are very much with you as you say goodbye to your husband and partner in life.

To Erika and Caleb, who travelled such a long way to be there for Bill and the family, thank you for making that journey and for all the love and support you have given. And to Amanda and Shayna, who have lost their Dad, we are thinking of you both and sending all our love. Shayna, we so wish we could be there beside you.

On a personal note, Bill, I’ll really miss sharing the odd Speight’s with you. I always enjoyed those times, sitting together over a beer in front of the fire, having a chat and enjoying your company. They were simple moments, but very special ones, and memories I’ll always treasure.

Thank you for all the memories, the laughter, and most of all for the love you gave so freely to our family. We feel very lucky to have had you in our lives, and William and Hugo will always know how much their Grandad loved them.

You will be greatly missed and always remembered with love and affection.

We're sorry you had to go Bill. May the beer and red wine be just as you like them and tunes from your favourite bands be on repeat where you're at now. You will be remembered by us all as an old soul with a steady background presence. Rest well now.

Bill was a devoted husband and loving father. Kind, and generous with his time and always ready with his wonderfully dry sense of humour. I remember him with fondness and a smile. Bill, you will be sadly missed and warmly remembered.

So sad to hear of Bill's passing.
He was a true gent who helped me greatly during my early days in Invercargill. We had a lot in common, and we enjoyed talking of our upbringing in South London.
