In Loving Memory of Mieke Hesson
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Mieke passed away peacefully in her sleep, a gentle smile on her face, comforted by the thought of being reunited with dearly missed family and friends.
Beloved and devoted wife of Paul Hesson. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Emily and Killian, Mike and Charmaine, and the late Karl and Simone. Adored Oma of Caywood, Jarreau, Holly, Charlotte, Olympia, Orla, Darcie, and Tommy. Proud great-grandmother of Bailey.
Deeply loved by her brothers, sister, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and her many treasured friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice Invercargill and Vickery Court for their outstanding care and compassion during Mieke’s final days.
A celebration of Mieke’s life will be held at the Riversdale Community Centre at 1:00 pm on Friday, 27th June, followed by a committal at the Riversdale Cemetery.
Messages and tributes for Mieke can be shared on her tribute page at www.distinctfunerals.co.nz, where a livestream link to her service can be found.

Sending our love to Paul and Emily, and family with the sad passing of a wonderful, loving, caring person.
Mieke was always so friendly and loved a yarn and catch up whenever we crossed paths, the same gorgeous smile she had never altered, although near the end, she must have had a lot not to smile about. A real trooper and my last encounter with Mieke was outside a cafe in Invercargill where she couldn't find a lighter in her handbag to have that good old cigarette, I was so pleased I had one in the truck, happiness plus plus🥰🥰Rest in Peace Mieke

Mieke was a rock for so many of us in the early years of parenthood, and I was privileged to have direct access to her love and support. She would always have “a plan” and a humongous hug. She continued to be that rock for her granddaughters Holly and Charlie as they have grown into amazing young women. It was the little things with Oma, like the stickers on birthday cards and annual Christmas tree decorations. Thank you for sharing her with me - Paul, Emily and Mike. I am sorry I could not make the service but from online it looked like a fabulous celebration of a wonderful woman. Missed, but never forgotten ❤️

Mieke was someone who meant the world to us, not in grand dramatic ways but in the quiet, dependable ways that really mattered. She always made us feel welcome and provided a warm and loving home in every way. Mieke had a special way of making you feel loved , she lead with action, care, humour and a strong sense of what was right, and she never asked for anything in return.
We will miss her straight forward wisdom and her steady love. We are grateful for everything she gave us.
Thank you Mieke we will miss you terribly but we will carry your spirit with us forever.
Simone, Caywood, Jarreau, Bailey, Rebecca and Yma

I worked with Mieke about 35 years ago at Wakari Hospital in the Reb ward, where we became friendly, then when i was preganant with my son Blair soon later Mieke was preganant with Emily, we used to catch up at each others house and the kids would play together. Later when you moved to Riversdale we came and visited twice and then we saw you at Kaka Point. Over the years i would send the occasional card but sadly never had a phone number. I will always remember Meike for her honesty, lovely smile and her voice. My sympathy to Paul, Emily and Mike and families, also to her relatives, and friends.
